This week in Moscow negotiations were held between the Syrian sides. Russian diplomats gave the opposition and representatives of the official Syrian authorities an opportunity to meet on neutral territory, discuss the situation and try to work out an exit strategy from the crisis.
After the talks, Secretary of the National Coordinating Committee abroad Majid Hubby said: "The Russian people, Russia in general have always advocated the preservation of the unity of Syria. Russia was for the interests of the Syrian people, and we appreciate it. I would like to thank the Russian side for the revival of a political means of settlement in the face of continuing war and after the Geneva-2 talks.
Of course, we wanted to achieve better results than those which were achieved, but we have achieved a breakthrough in many respects. Now various media stress the fact that the Syrian opposition is not united, but includes different groups. "
Meanwhile, according to Majid Hubby, "the meeting provides the basis for the continuation of the Geneva process, and it is impossible to jump over Geneva to some other means. In this regard, we would like to thank the Russian side, and, in particular, Foreign Minister Lavrov, who clearly said that he works from the Geneva premises. Russia is not just a mediator. Russia, in fact, is a participant in Syrian reconciliation, and Lavrov played a very active role in this process. We ask all these intermediaries -whoever they are - Iranians Americans - to become genuine mediators without putting pressure on us. We want them to create an opportunity for us, Syrians, to solve the challenges we face. "
Member of the leadership of the movement "Democratic Tribune Syria," Samir Aita spoke about the interaction of his movement and the official representatives of Damascus during the negotiations, as well as about what questions "Democratic Tribune Syria" said are the most important: "I gave a speech to the Syrian official delegation, and in this document I have outlined the basic requirements of our side - in particular, the need to release thousands of political prisoners. I also gave information as to how to address these issues, how to develop the humanitarian sphere, including education. Whatever the further development of the crisis in Syria, we must form a new generation. Finally, an appeal to the United Nations to do everything to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance and food to all parts of Syria."
The secretary of the party People’s Will, member of the leadership of the Front for Change and Liberation, Qadri Jamil, said that the talks are likely to become the herald of a new Syria: "We are here today, and each of us is himself, or the organization to which he belongs and no one pretends to represent someone else."
"The Syrian opposition is now working on the basis of the logic and spirit of the Syrian Constitution, which speaks of a multiparty system, and it may herald a new Syria, to which we aspire. We believe that the presence of several opposition groups and opposition parties is a denial of the dominance of a single party in the country."
According to Samir Aita, "the Russian side has agreed to represent the interests of the Syrians to prepare the next meeting. The next meeting will include three main points relating to the representation. This is, first, all political organizations, all elements of civil society, and also those who lead an armed struggle. They must also take part in the dialogue, in order to cease fire."
