Russian-Armenian relations to be improved

Russian-Armenian relations to be improved

Yerevan recently hosted the third scientific conference this year, entitled "Russia and Armenia in global and regional affairs: problems and perspectives", organized by the Russian Institute for Eurasian Research. For the first time, three important activities, in which the most prominent experts of both countries have taken part, were undertaken in the year.

The reason why Russia is so interested in improving relations with Armenia is that Armenia is now the only possible partner for Russia, after the country's relations with neighbouring Georgia deteriorated.

This was underlined by the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Vyacheslav Kovalenko. "Armenia is Russia's only support in the South Caucasus. To lose Armenia means to lose the South Caucasus," said the Ambassador.

For the first time the parties are not only reassuring each other of their mutual understanding and intention to remain strategic partners, but are also criticising the present state of affairs and expressing a desire to improve their relations. Both Armenian and Russian officials are ready to make the cooperation between the two countries more substantial in all spheres.
