Ahead of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the process of falsifyinh its results has been intensified. According to Victor Skryabin, deputy director for expositions and exhibitions at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War, those who falsify the character of the war try to avoid responsibility for unleashing it, for the crimes committed during the war. At the same time, the role of the Soviet Union, the Red Army in reaching the Victory and liberation of Europe is underestimated.
“What is the point of the falsifications we know are only coming up, appearing in some verbal, private statements, not only in the works of researchers, scientists, they have become a part of political life. We see how such statements are made by world-level politicians. In part, falsification of the history of the Great Patriotic and the Second World War has become a policy of sets of countries. Why is this being done?” Skryabin asks.
According to him, first of all, it is done to evade historical responsibility for the crimes committed throughout the years of Nazism, the years of the Second World War. “The Soviet Union did not clash with Germany alone. Fundamentally, it clashed with the united Europe, which was overall supporting Nazi Germany in different forms, sometimes with weapons, assigning military formations at a state level, which fought against the Soviet Union. Now, of course, it is unpleasant to recall. That is why demeaning the role of the Soviet Union, the Red Army, seems very appropriate to them,” the expert thinks.
At the same time, the geopolitical situation in the world is undergoing an acute change. “The Yalta-Potsdam System, which was created and which maintained the stability of Europe, and to a great extent the stability of the whole world for 50 years, needs dismantling, reconsidering, as a result of certain discords among some forces. It is indeed cracking, especially concerning the mechanisms guaranteeing prevention of military conflicts. New interests arise, new attempts to divide the world, of course, the victory of the Soviet Union, the world system established after the great victory, a bipolar world was established, and which was to a great extent the guarantee of security, the guarantee of peace on Earth, is certainly unsatisfying for them,” Skryabin believes.
He thinks that there is a whole set of private interests of certain states rewriting history, depicting it anew, they have their own territorial and geopolitical interests hindered by impartial history and the results of the Second World War. That is why, unfortunately, we note that, approaching the solemn anniversary, we face a premeditated policy of falsifications of the history of the Great Patriotic and the Second World War, which, of course, should be countered, and we do counter them using all resources available.”
