In early March, during the elections of the ataman of the Stavropol Terek Cossacks in Stavropol Territory, much was said on the problems of the Cossacks. Colonel Alexander Falko, who was re-elected for a second term, talked about the necessity of reforming the structure of the country and re-registering the Cossack communities with the Ministry of Justice of Stavropol Terrirtory, as well as the economic problems of the Cossacks.
The meaning of all the statements came down to the fact that it was not necessary to break the existing structure of Cossack society, but to achieve financial independence. The deputy head of Stavropol Territory, Sergei Ushakov, said that in the years 2012-2015 the local government will allocate about 63 million rubles to support Cossack communities.
