The Ingush authorities have promised to improve the living conditions of refugees.
For two decades Ingushetia has been facing the problem of forced migration. For some time the number of refugees in the republic has exceeded the number of the native population. Refugees have to live in poor neighbourhoods, stay in barracks and their living standards are terrible.
After the republic's authorities announced that the barracks are going to be demolished, refugees and human rights advocates were worried about the future of people living in such barracks. Ingush officials eventually promised to find living places for all refugees.
In the framework of the federal target program, 16 apartment buildings will be built in order to provide almost 8 thousand people with accomodation. The Federal Migration Service is currently monitoring the places where refugees stay. The results of the examination will help federal officials to decide which groups of refugees need new living places more than others.
