Makhachkala has hosted the Congress of the Intelligentsia. The republic's head, Magomedsalam Magomedov, spoke about steps that have been taken for achieving the aims set out at the Session of Dagestani Peoples in December 2010. One of the main achievements of Dagestan is the development of the Social and Economy Strategy for the Republic to 2025, aimed at entering the top twenty regions of the country according to standards of living and volumes of gross regional product, Last year Dagestan managed to show a positive dynamic in the main macroeconomic rates. The volume of federal grants fell by up to 70%. It is planned to carry out major projects in the spheres of industry, energy, agriculture, tourism, and transport in the near future.
The head of the republic also says that many Dagestan scientists work abroad and in other regions of Russia, but Dagestan needs them for modernization. Moreover, Magomedov stressed the problem of corruption in educational structures. He called it “educational terrorism.”
The head of Dagestan State University, Murtazali Rabadanov, was elected chairman of the Council of the Congress of the Dagestani Intelligentsia. He sees his aim as stabilization of the social and political situation in the region, development of a multiethnic culture and science and improvement of the public healthcare and education systems.He considers the role of the intelligentsia in the search for common worldviews to be necessary for implementation of the mediatory consolidating mission.
