Humanity.This is the main and the first dogma and characteristic of the Adygs. It means sympathy for people and readiness to help, as well as hospitability, respect for elderly people, delicacy and other valuable people skills. The reason for being humane is the idea of salvation through good deeds – “psape.” It’s like a cult of good deeds.
Respect. First of all this notion is associated with politeness, modesty, delicacy and good manners. Special attention is paid to principles of respectful behaviour and etiquette. Among etiquette principles are respect for the elderly, women, guests, relatives and children.Sense. It is thought that the Adygs are characterized by a great and morally-oriented mind. It is thought that sense not only serves, but also defines a moral state of mind and behaviour. Violation of Adyg values and the principles of ethics is seen as unreasonable and ridiculous. Sense correlates to a sober social mind and “the art of being among people.” The ability to understand remains separate. It means making an accurate moral appraisal of a situation, feeling sympathy and respect for people.
Courage. This personal skill includes not only a warrior spirit and bravery, but also guts and self-motivation, as well as justice, delicacy and tolerance. A distinguished person is fearless and honest, wise and generous, well-mannered and moderate.
Honour. Honour, conscience and shame mark a person’s moral behavior and prevent him from bad deeds. Honour is connected with the idea of true ethical fear, the fear of losing face. Honour includes the honour of the nation, which should be kept by all Adygs.
