Recently the Russian capital hosted a conference “The North Caucasus: Peculiarities of political dialogue of cultures. View from Moscow.” The plenipotentiary envoy of Ingushetia under the president of the Russian Federation, Vakha Yevloyev, expressed his ideas on the issue.
These days many officials of the country have commented on the provocative slogan “Stop feeding the Caucasus” Yevloyev has criticized such an approach too: “The president of Russia was wise to say that the dissolution of the Soviet Union started after we began separating the republics. I think the provocateurs who raise this issue are short-sighted. Nobody feeds anyone. We should revive Russia together. I think these people don’t want to see anything positive in the country.”
Vakha Yevloyev commented on the problem of unemployment, which is discussed in Ingushetia and other republics of the North Caucasus: “The head of Ingushetia pays close attention to this problem. Today Ingushetia has missions in 48 regions of Russia. The missions establish work for Ingushetians, who leave the republic and found companies, which can be developed. We initiated the idea that when an oil deposit runs short, we organize job sharing with the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district. Such practice in development of oil was popular in the times of Chechen-Ingushetia. We have many specialists in this sphere. We have agreements with various regions, like the Sverdlovsk and Penza regions. Most families in Ingushetia have many children, and people come to other regions to work, not to play the fool.”
He also mentioned other measures aimed at solving the unemployment problem, for example, establishing a tourist cluster: “Many countries live on tourism revenues. There are splendid weather conditions in the republic. Short-sighted people are against such investment, of course. “Stop feeding the Caucasus” means that no support should be given to a part of the country. Ingushetia is a constituent of the Russian Federation. I’m glad that the head of the republic participates in all these arrangements, student exchanges, creating work. He strictly watches us, the officials, because we implement his orders.”
Concerning development of tourism, Yevloyev said “the lowest criminal rate is in Ingushetia, according to the statistics.” “If we have the same criminal cases as other regions have, you can see that the rates decrease. I think it is more about exaggeration by the media,” the envoy stated.
As for the role of the mass media in the process of reviving the North Caucasus, Yevloyev noted: “I think the media should have a more certain position and cover developments in the North Caucasus widely. For example, sometimes a journalist who has never been to the Caucasus describes the mentality and traditions of the Caucasian peoples. Many Russians live in the North Caucasus, and they are happy. It is peoples’ friendship.”
