The Republic of Ingushetia is 18 years old

The day of the formation of the Republic of Ingushetia as a separate subject of the Russian Federation took place on June the 4th 1992, the day the High Council passed the corresponding law, and a new stage in the building of the Ingush state began. Ceremonies to mark the event took place over several days.
The programme of events included awards made to Ingush citizens for service, the laying of a stone on the site of the 1000-seat theatre-leisure hall in Magas, the opening of a cottage settlement for landslide victims in Malgobek, the opening of a specialist boxing facility in Nazran and holding the international conference ‘Our second homeland - Kazakhstan’ with the participation of a Kazakh delegation. The place next to the monument to victims of repression on Shey-are Square in Nasir-Kort became an open-air concert space, whereexhibitions of national cuisine and folk crafts were on display.
Guests arriving for the festivities were accomodated in the ‘Assa’ hotel on the scenic side of Nazran pond and were able to see a tightrope-walking show ‘Ingush Games’.

VK note:
The conferring of statehood has great historical significance for Ingushetians. In 1770 the territory of Ingushetia became part of Russia. In 1921 the Highland Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was formed, and in 1924 - the Ingush Autonomous Oblast (IAO). In 1934 the IAO and the Chechen Autonomous Oblast were united into the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Oblast, which was transformed in 1936 to the
Chechen-Ingush Soviet Socialist Republic (CISSR). In 1944 the CISSR was abolished, and the population was deported to Kyrgizia and Kazakhstan on false charges. The CISSR was reinstated in 1957.
