On Monday the prominent Russian lawyer, the member-correspondent of the RAS, academician of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences, Dzhakhangir Kerimov, was honored with the highest juridical award of the country "Lawyer of the Year" for contribution to development of law science in Russia.
Awarding of "Lawyer of the Year" was the central event of Lawyer Day - a festival which is marked in Russia on December 3rd annually. This highest professional award is awarded by the Association of Lawyers of Russia for significant contribution to establishing a law state, improvement of law enforcement, protection of rights and interests of citizens, and contribution to development of legal science. At the awarding ceremony Dmitry Medvedev urged to complete renewing of the Civil Code and undertake a reform of law education.
The winner of the year, academician Kerimov is one of the most prominent experts on philosophic problems of legal science, social planning and management, and theory of state and law. Today Kerimov is the major scientist of the Socio-Political Studies Institute of the RAS and Moscow State Law Academy.
Academician Kerimov wrote more than 800 scientific articles and pamphlets, 40 individual monographs. He studies issues of the general theory of law, including such important aspects as sociology and law philosophy. Scientific works of the scientist cover the theme of complex prevention of law violation, social management and planning.
Dzhakhangir Kerimov was born in 1923 in Baku and in 1942 was sent to the Trans-Caucasian front. After the war Kerimov graduated from the Baku branch of the All-Soviet Extra-Mural Law Institute and went in for science. He defended his PhD work and continued scientific career in Russia, but had never forgotten native Azerbaijan. In 1952 Kerimov headed the department of theory of state and law in Leningrad State University. In 1967 he became a member of the Azerbaijani SSR Academy of Sciences, but in 1970 he moved to Moscow. Due to his deep knowledge in the sphere of law Kerimov was the people's deputy of the USSR for 10 years. Scientific works by Kerimov are well-known abroad. They are translated in English, French, German, Czech, Spanish, Croatian, Polish, Finnish, and other languages.
