Greater Jihad

Greater Jihad

Among Chechens expression "greater jihad" is popular. In the 1990's and now under this term the transition from fighting to armistice is implied.
When in 1996 between Ichkeria and Russia an agreement on a ceasefire had been concluded, the Chechen authorities identified it as the end of the “small jihad”. Specifically, that time the "small jihad" was called the action of struggle against the enemy, according to the same traditional treatment  it was the active fulfilment of the commandments of God. "Ahead the greater jihad, that is restoration and development of the republic, is waiting for us, as well as the preservation of peace", - told  leaders of those times.

At the end of February in the republic the birth of the prophet was widely celebrated. Not only in the capital, but in different areas unprecedented mass celebrations  have been held. President Ramzan Kadyrov wished his people to follow the path of the prophet Muhammad and to fulfil his covenants. In Chechnya, probably, as in every society, these or that events are not always appreciated unanimously. Equally a formal, religious or other celebration, it usually involves a lot of debates, the conclusions of supporters or opponents.

Chechen leader often said that his aim was to bring up a worthy young generation, the real men and defenders of the homeland. The main component of the educational ideology of the republic's head were Nakh people’s ancient customs and Muslims religious canons. Though not all Chechen youth to decided where is more true religion - among the "forest brothers" or in advance of Islam in today's peaceful Chechnya.

Imperfect judicial system, clan structure, corruption, impunity, lack of real opposition – that ade the arguments of one of the part of young generation. Here  they see the justification for gunmen actions. Another part of the youth asks: who did more for Islam - Doku Umarov or Ramzan Kadyrov. The less devoted to religious rites people have their own reasoning: "Who can guarantee that the imposition of Islamic norms in society will not contribute to the spread of radical ideas among the youth?"

The republic realizes that to overcome extremism and to consolidate the society by only economic measures is impossible mission. Many people hope that religion will help to make people more patient, and the officials more fair. However, there is a fear that Islam may be for youth only fulfilment of certain rituals.

The term "greater jihad" is religious. It means a declaration of war against the destructive and negative emotions and thoughts, which our ego creates, and prevent from achieving perfection - anger, hatred, envy, selfishness, arrogance, haughtiness and arrogance. As explained by theologians, it is very difficult Jihad: "Aisha (the wife of the Prophet Muhammad) testufied that one evening the Messenger of Allah asked her for permission to hold the whole night in prayer. The fact that he asked about it, shows that he was polite and a sensitive man. Generosity and sensitivity as respects to other people were important features that distinguish him. "
