The 15th anniversary of the friendship school

By Vestnik Kavkaza

A new institute – schools with national ethnic-cultural component – appeared in the Russian educational system in recent 20 years. It enables getting knowledge on national culture, a nation’s household, its history, language, literature, traditions of social behavior, and moral values. Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the secondary school with an ethno-cultural Azerbaijani educational component No. 157 named after K. A. Kerimov was a prominent event for the whole Moscow educational system. The 157th school is thought to be a role model for other educational institutes of Moscow.

Aida Guliyeva, director of school with an ethno-cultural Azerbaijani component No. 157 named after K. A. Kerimov

Throughout all the years in our school we have had more than 15 nationalities, and now we have 31 nationalities. Therefore, they all found the help of the two countries, of the friendship between the two countries, Russia and Azerbaijan, which provided us their support, and we felt this support. I am grateful to the two peoples, which, thanks to their friendship, could create for us a place far away from home where we could teach language, tradition and culture. I think even if today ethno-cultural schools are losing their value, the experience gained by ethno-cultural schools for 20 years, because our school has existed for 15 years, and the first experimental schools were founded 20 years ago, this experience will be studied and will be used. Because what is happening in our schools is not just a rant, it is something that helps modern society to survive, because we restrain social and ethnic tensions, and this allows Russia to live in peace.

Polad Bulbuloglu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Russia

At this school there is a really international spirit. This school has done everything to ensure that children grow in tolerance and that they really match what today is really required of them in life. The name of Kerim Kerimov, our outstanding Azerbaijani, who for many years has been kept secret, and even in the Soviet Union nobody knew what he was doing, because he was our chief space engineer, and in those days it was kept secret, and when astronauts gave a report to him, he was always shown from the back, and no one knew who he was. Only when all these classified data were opened did we learned that our illustrious leader, an Azerbaijani, was in such a high position. The fact that this school was named after Kerim Kerimov is, of course, the merit of Aida Ihanum. And that this name will live on, I'm sure the name will live on at the school, and each new generation of children who come here will find out who Kerim Kerimov was, who started the conquest of space, and what the fate of this great person was. Therefore, Aida lhanum, of course, we will always help you protect the school and do everything in our power to ensure that the school works well.

Surya Kerimova, the daughter of Kerim Kerimov

I come here quite often, and each time I am amazed at the great team of teachers here and at the well-educated students who are interested in many things, do good work and study. And thank you so much that you keep the memory of my father. Indeed, now he would have been 95 years old. Both our family and your team remember that date and celebrate it.
Pavel Vokalyuk, chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Golovinsky district

The school is actively involved in the education of the younger generation, the school always takes an active part in all of the holidays that we conduct, holidays which are devoted to memorable, important dates of our country. The school is multinational. The school is home to 30 nationalities. This is wonderful. I think that it will serve to unite the Azerbaijani and Russian peoples.
