It is +20 ... +25 in Moscow today

Now the weather is characterized by very low temperatures in Moscow. “The male half of the members of the Academic Council of Meteorologists thought - how can we express our warm attitude to women on March 8? And we found out what to do. We decided once a year, on March 8, to predict the temperature background not in the usual Celsius scale but using the Fahrenheit scale,” Roman Vilfand, director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, says. “And then it sounds like this: on March 8, the day temperature is expected in the range of Fahrenheit +20 ... +25. Here, we wish to express our warmest and most wonderful good attitude to the beautiful half of humanity.”

“No matter how many meteorologists believe that on March 1 spring in our country does not begin, all the same, each time March 1 is a day that causes elation. Spring is here. It will take 2-3 weeks, and March 23 is the vernal equinox, and the sun will inevitably warm us. There are also always very pleasant phenological signs of spring, when the snow begins to melt - there is a concept of meteorology, when up to 30% of the land is released from the snowpack. The snow melts in Moscow usually at the end of the first to the beginning of the second third of April. Of course, we are not talking about a city where the snow is taken out,” Vilfand states. “It is quite common to hear the opinion that this year's winter was incredibly snowy. It was far from it. This winter was characterized just by the norm, the usual amount of snow, which is designed over 130 years of observations. This amount of snow should fall during a normal winter. Another thing that is a highlight, perhaps, is that there were heavy snowfalls - not evenly throughout the month, but there was strong snowfall, from 28-29 November, when the first heavy snowfall covered the ground, and the subsequent events. The most memorable one took place a month ago, on February 4. But on other days there was no snow. This caused another factor: this year, the number of hours of sunshine exceeded the normal limit by about 25%, that is, the winter was much more joyful than usual, because the gloomy, depressing gray weather is not that pleasant, and when the snow falls discretely, and then clear sky comes - it's still a pleasant event.”
