Doctors from Germany visited Chechnya. They help children who were injured by bombs. The German delegation of 14 people was headed by the president of the non-governmental organization “Interplast-Germany”, cosmetic surgeon Andre Borshe and the head of the German humanitarian organization “The Light of Eyes” Alexander Yakob. German doctors planned to stay in Chechnya for a week, but the number of children who need operations was greater than it was expected, and they stayed for a longer period. German doctors come during their vacations, and the money for implementation of the projects is gathered through humanitarian channels all over Germany.
The Health Minister of Chechnya Musa Akhmadov told Vestnik Kavkaza that the international organization “The Light of Eyes” has huge experience in cosmetic surgery, especially in the sphere of treating children with a birth defect of face. “We have signed a memorandum on future cooperation. Annually these specialists will make free operations. Our doctors who operate on together with them are gaining huge experience. It is very import for training specialists in the republic. This time the most difficult cases of birth defects were operated on – more than 30 children. Moreover, several children are going to be treated in Germany.”
This is not the firt time German doctors have come to Chechnya. Since 2006 European surgeons treated more than 500 little patients; the most difficult cases were operated on in Germany. The main attention was paid to people who got mine-blast traumas and burns. Surgeons conduct cosmetic surgeons to them, as there are no specialists in this sphere in the republic.
Andre Borshe is thought to be one of the best cosmetic surgeons if the world. They say his golden hands were blessed by mother Theresa. Working in Grozny, the surgeon emphasized importance of advanced training for Chechen doctors. “We are being helped by your doctors who are quick on the draw and extend their knowledge. In the future it is important to establish an opportunity for them to treat children by themselves here. We show them examples of treatment patients who get special treatment. Your hospitals are as good equipped as European hospitals,” Borshe said.
Working in Grozny, German doctors held very difficult operations which are not conducted in Russia. I.e. treatment of birth deficits of face and burns. This time about a half of the majority of patients were operated on by doctors of the Republican Children Clinic. These are doctors who were working with German specialists in 2006-2007. They were trained in Germany.
