Russian President signed a decree on celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. "It will take place in two years, but we need to start preparing now to meet the anniversary with dignity," Vladimir Putin said during a "hot line" with the Russians.

Celebrating the 68th anniversary of the victory will be more modest. One of the main centers of the celebrations will be the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill. An international exhibition entitled “Childhood Burned by the War” telling about children whose fears of the war were deepened from psychological, physical and moral points of view has been opened recently. “Many of them were young patriots and fought, for example, as shipboys on ships and boats; regimental sons; young partisans. But many of them were shot dead or simply burned. We have a collection of documents which prove that many children were killed in death camps and ghettos”, Vladimir Zabarovsky, head of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War, the executive director of the Russian Military Historic Society, says. “This is our response to a film which is now being discussed by the whole country and on the internet. It was broadcast by official German TV-channels – “Our Mothers, Our Fathers.” One episode shows that the Red Army soldiers broke into a German hospital and started shooting hospital attendants and raping nurses. It is an awful falsification, an awful lie to say this in the 21st century. The Russian Military History Society heavily criticized the movie. It shouldn’t be like that – a revival and justification of Nazi crimes. They mustn’t impose on modern society the idea that a German soldier was like a rescuer from the Soviet Union; as if he fought against the Bolsheviks. Our outstanding chronicle which will be demonstrated on all our video-channels and screens, where burned villages in the Smolensk, Pskov, Bryansk, Tula and Kalinin regions are depicted, will be broadcast non-stop on May 9th. It has to be shown to understand the importance of the Great Victory. There will be a series of wreath and flower-laying ceremonies at the flame of memory and glory and our sculpture “Grief.” Of course, we will light candles early in the morning, at the hour of mourning and remember everybody who was a victim of Nazism. It encourages us to take decisive actions within the current laws and historical memory against the attempts at falsification which are taking place today”.

“Today we, Russia, the Soviet Union, have to make a lot of excuses”, Ivan Martynushkin, veteran of the Great Patriotic War, says. “We have to disprove what is said about us in the West, and even in our country there are such “activists.” We have found ourselves in such conditions, or we have trapped ourselves that we allow falsification to be spread, as well as obvious lies and the same things. I would like to remember the times when we began to rescue Poland and Europe. Ahead of entering Poland, our troops received a guideline from our political authorities, which spoke about the attitude to Poland. It was clearly stated that Poland was our ally, that the Red Army fulfilled a historic task in rescuing Poland and the Polish people from the Nazism; that the Soviet Union would help Poland revive, would help in the financial and military spheres. It was required that the army must have done this and must have not done this. The army must have not committed any violence against the Polish population, instead of this we must have helped them and establish normal, friendly relations. In case of any violations, any attempts at expropriation of food supply, vehicles, and so on, those who are guilty would have been punished very severely. I was in Poland after the end of the war in 1945 and all 1946 till autumn, and I can say that this guideline was strictly followed. I have spoken a lot and have written many letters to two presidents and other organizations on establishing the Day of Liberation of Auschwitz, or the Day of the Soviet Army Liberation Mission in Europe. I think this holiday is important from the point of view of resistance to the information war which is waged against us, to the lies and falsifications against our country and development. So I believe this holiday must be established as the Day of the Soviet Army Liberation Mission in Europe. I haven’t received positive responses to my letters yet. Unfortunately, it is a shame about the primitive answers sent to me from the administrations of our politicians. However, I would like to address journalists for support for this day to be established in our country”.
