The head of the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service, major state doctor of Russia, Gennady Onishchenko, presented a new set of recommendations on looking after your health.
He called air-conditioners “a crafty helper” which are able to cause not only a cold, but also infectious diseases. “Current weather is a good reason for thinking about your health. One must not drink alcohol which worsens the situation,” Onishchenko said and heavily criticized Russian men. “I have always said that in our country there is a non-Olympic kind of sport – throwing doughnuts into a man’s mouth in a prone position in front of a TV-set,” Onishchenko told journalists on Wednesday in Moscow. “It’s a terrible thing. Men are inactive because they cannot hunt in a Moscow flat and pretend that they prepare for going to the cruel world to earn money, even though their salaries are small. Surfeit is a huge problem. I would recommend young people to do sports.”
The more serious problem is ticks in this summer. In 2012 tick-bites were registered in 78 regions of Russia in comparison to 64 regions in 2012, despite the fact that summer hasn’t started yet. “Unfortunately, the Moscow Region is not an exception, even though there was time when for 20 years there were no ticks either in Moscow or in the Moscow Region. What should people do? If you belong to a cottage community, please hire special services – today either private business or state structures do it – and treat your territory, your cottage community… I wouldn’t recommend anybody to walk through taiga or Moscow forests in shorts. People need full clothing coverage so that ticks can't reach the body. If you see a tick on your body, don’t tear it off. It has already stuck to you, and the all that would happen is that you would tear its body from its head which remains on your body. Drip a drop of salad-oil and it will start to choke and leave you. After this you must go to a doctor to check whether it was infected or not.”
