Dagestan pays attention to healthcare

By Vestnik Kavkaza
One of first steps by the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov was the reform of the healthcare system in the republic. Speaking about the situation in the sphere, Abdulatipov spoke about corruption, the absence of highly-professional staff, and the mistrust of Dagestani medical workers by the population. The delegation of the federal Ministry of Healthcare headed by Veronika Skvortsova visited Makhachkala. A new minister was appointed in the republic.
“The healthcare of the republic is the sphere which is criticized along with education and some other humanitarian spheres,” Alexander Yermoshkin, permanent Russian presidential envoy to the Republic of Dagestan, told Vestnik Kavkaza. “All medical workers should help our republic to improve the healthcare level. It is well-known that the ministry, the minister, and Ramazan Abdulatipov have adopted a series of initiatives for buying new equipment, hiring managers for hospitals and improving training skills of our workers. Recently we have sent a letter to the Russian government and requested to include Dagestan into the program of air medical service because we have a lot of remote villages and regions. We hope the republic will be included in the program and we will be able to take patients to hospitals in a faster way. We have to do a lot of work; we hope it will be done with the support of our healthcare elite.
According to Yermoshkin, “at the moment, a big program of modernization of the healthcare system is being developed in the republic. It would be wonderful, if people came to the republic for difficult surgeries, if high-tech equipment were in the republic.”
Sakinat Makkayeva, honored doctor of Dagestan, told Vestnik Kavkaza that “the Social Council on the Healthcare wass founded in Dagestan. We are its active members and invite everybody to join our common activity - health promotion among Dagestan’s people in favor of the wonderful future of our beautiful Dagestan. We want to involve as many doctors as possible so that everybody can use their knowledge and ideas to modernize and develop healthcare in our republic. There are many aspects about the material and technical base, science, and so on.”
Magomed Abdulkhabirov, reader in Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics of the People’s Friendship University of Russia, stated in an interview to Vestnik Kavkaza: “In Moscow we have established the Dagestani Medical Association which is now 25 years old. We gather annually on Medical Worker’s Day. Today one or two Dagestani doctors work in almost all Moscow hospitals and do it with a high level of skill. Of course, we try to help each other and those people who come from Dagestan. Dagestani doctors become chief doctors in Moscow hospitals. There is no anti-Caucasian or anti-Dagestan propaganda among medical workers, because we all know each other. Professionalism and decency are present. If these two things are present, one can work well.”
