Beslan: a new benchmark

Yesterday Russia celebrated the Day of solidarity in the fight against terrorism. On this day, the country remembers the victims of the Beslan tragedy, during which 334 people were killed, and most of them were children. Yesterday in Moscow at the Alania mission next to the monument to the children who died in 2004, a mourning ceremony was held.

"The events of nine years ago are a blow to the heart where it hurt”, chairman of the Moscow Ossetian community Valery Kabolov told VK. “Children should be protected unconditionally. Then we were faced with such force that normal people could not resist. The fact that these children were killed is the fault of all of us. This guilt will never end. Whatever purposes the terrorists pursued, with all the pain of our wounds, they will never achieve the aim which they pursue. We will always be united in one thing: peace should reign on earth, the children should grow up in security, regardless of religion and nationality."

"There are no words to describe the feelings, the emotions that were then” former hostage Victoria Ktsoeva said. “On the first day, we all waited for our president, because every child , every parent , sitting in the hall , was confident that our president would come and save us. On the second day, when we realized that this would not happen, we felt despair and disappointment. We all just sat and prayed to survive. When there was a blast, I was in the gym, it is a small outbuilding. There were about fifteen people there. All the windows were closed with bars , and it was impossible to get inside or to get out. The terrorist who came after us told us to go to the dining room. When we came out, there were only corpses and only a few living people in the gym. They made a "corridor", scattered people , so that we could go throughit . And we were crawling, because bullets were flying. When we were already in the hallway of the school, there were a lot of terrorists - they were standing along the walls, and walking past them , we entered the dining room. In the dining room there were a lot of people ...

A commando brought me out thanks to my brother. I was already unconscious, and my brother was unharmed because I covered him by myself. He said the commandos , "I will not leave school without my sister . Take my sister, and I 'll go with you . '"

"All that was before the events in Beslan , and the further nine years are completely incompatible things”, member of the Federation Council Alexander Totoonov  thinks. “Beslan almost turned my inner self-image. This is the guilt, the sense of vigilant conscience, which hurts all of us , because we were not able to save the most precious thing that nature and the heavens have given us. We have returned them to the heavens. And this, of course, any time is a very painful wound . These days, each of us unwittingly picks open these wounds. They do not heal, but they are open all the time to blood, to tears. I think any man who wants something important probably has to “purify” himself in those days , because we are indebted to childhood, to the future …

Unfortunately, it happened in Ossetia. It could happen anywhere because the evil is now scattered around the world, and not by accident this day is called the Day of international solidarity in the fight against terror, and only together maybe we can resist this greatest evil of the XXI century, and we should win. Therefore Beslan is a new benchmark".
