The Unified State Exams finished on June 18th. According to the Federal Service of Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor) 757,303 people took part in it; 693,993 people are school leavers this year. Sergei Kravtsov, the head of the Federal Service of Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science, and his deputy Anzor Muzayev commented for Vestnik Kavkaza on the USE campaign in the North Caucasus.

“We can confidently say that this year the exams were objective and fair, at least in comparison with last year. I should say that trust in the USE results has returned this year,” Sergei Kravtsov, the head of the Federal Service of Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science, said. “The President ordered to organize facilities in the CIS countries for the second wave of the USE. We did it in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Lithuania. The USE also was sat in Crimea. It was sat on the basis of the Black Sea Fleet school in Sevastopol. Everything was smooth in a normal mode. I visited it and watched students sitting it. The USE was absolutely objective and fair this year in the NCFD, as well as in other regions of Russia.”

Anzor Muzayev, deputy head of the Federal Service of Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science, added that this year was a difficult time for ministers of education in the North Caucasus, first of all: “6 out of 7 ministers were freshmen. They faced the USE for the first time, and the legacy was difficult. They had to conduct objective sitting of the exam at the country’s level. They got through it. We had 700 public observers from various regions, different districts, the Sverdlovsk Region, the Volgograd Region, the Astrakhan Region. We also experienced intercultural exchange. They had been living in our regions for two months. Regional committees for youth affairs organized joint arrangements with them. In fact many Russian people saw the North Caucasus in a new light. Stereotypes were dispelled, I mean horror stories about the North Caucasus in the mass media, they disappeared due to the project. Thus, all heads of the North Caucasus regions and ministers intend to continue the line in the next year.
