"We are proud to be citizens of this beautiful country and we are thankful to its president, Ilham Aliyev," residents of the Russian community living in the Slavyansk village of the Gyadabeysky District of Azerbaijan wrote in a letter to the AzerTaj news agency.
In this letter the head of the community recollects local residents' meeting with President Aliyev in 2006, when he paid a visit to the district and met with the local Russian community. The president also ordered the gas supply to the village to be improved.
Local residents also met with State Advisor for Inter-ethnic Relations Kyamal Abdullayev. During the meeting, residents of the village asked the official to build a kindergarten in the area and now the construction is nearly complete, the letter reads.
The village was founded in 1844 by a religious minority forced to leave Ukraine by the Russian imperial authorities.
