During the first weekend of September, residents and guests of the Russian capital are celebrating Moscow Day. This year's celebrations and festive events will be held at more than 1000 sites in Moscow. 67 museums will work for free. For the first time projects proposed by Muscovites themselves will be included in the programme. One of them is a city-wide day of excursions. Every hour from 11:00 to 22:30 from nine subway stations within the Garden Ring free walking tours will be held.

Head of the Department of Culture of Moscow Sergei Kapkov said that on September 6-7 Muscovites will be able to see the most interesting programmes that were shown during the "The Best City in the World" summer festival. "This year, in all districts of the city we will host more than 1000 events. This means there will be more than 1000 sites. Those are the city's parks, parkways, and all the museums of the city, as well as recreation centers and music schools. The whole infrastructure of the city will participate in the celebration," Sergey Kapkov said.

Events will start at 13:00 at all the sites, with the anthem of Moscow being sung and will end at 22:30 with fireworks in 17 urban parks and in each prefecture. "We hold firework displays in each prefecture, so that people can walk out of their houses, taking their children and parents, to see the fireworks and enjoy them, and then quietly return back home," the head of the Department of Culture of Moscow explained.

After the fireworks at 23:00 the film "Walking the Streets of Moscow" will be shown in 11 open-air cinemas organised in the city's parks. Sergey Kapkov considers this film a landmark not only for Moscow, but cinema in general. "It's not just that it was shot in Moscow in the sixties. This film depicts many famous sites of Moscow. I think that for Muscovites, including the people of the younger generation, it will be interesting to see what Moscow was like then, and what Moscow has become now.

According to Kapkov, the main task for the administration of Moscow is to make the holiday fun for all. "All the venues are different, because Moscow is different for everyone, and the cultural programs in every park, at each site, will also be different. There will be performances of the Spasskaya Tower military bands festival and a performance by Slava Polunin and of artists of the Bolshoi Theatre in Sokolniki Park. Therefore, the programme is unique and great," Kapkov said.

Kapkov advised to go for a walk on the Boulevard Ring. "There are more than 10 boulevards, more than 30 areas of activities. It has it all - from a circus programme for children to various activities for people of every age, taste and wealth," he said.
