A forum entitled "Strategic issues of youth policy in the Caucasus" finished recently in Pyatigorsk. The aim of the forum was to explain to the participants the logic behind the state policy towards young people in the Caucasus. During the forum young activists were acquainted with the governmental development strategy and discussed issues of future youth policy.
Youth policy in the North Caucasian Federal District is very dynamic. The reason for this is that the percentage of young people in this region is the highest in the Russian Federation, making youth policy here extremely important. The strategy adopted by the Federal authorities is rather wise and well-balanced. By supporting the initiatives of the young people of the region, the Federal Government is securing future stability in the region.
The Presidential envoy, Mr. Khloponin, is trying to overcome a very dangerous tendency. Religious extremism in the region is becoming more and more influential. This movement may someday threaten the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation. One of the most
important tasks for the officials is to fight down this tendency.
