The Lomonosov MSU Institute of the Russian Language and Culture has marked its 60th anniversary. It is the oldest branch specializing in teaching Russian as a foreign language and its promotion abroad.
The director of the Institute, Professor Vera Stepanenko, said: “60 years have passed since foreign students started studying at the MSU. Some island of internationalism was formed, where students of different continents, different religions, different characters, different temperaments, met for the first time. The goal was to consolidate, unite and teach them the Russian language. The Russian language united them. I think the people who got an education in Russian after that, graduating from our university, brought their cultures, knowledge, good feelings and memories about student life, which is always well-recalled, to their countries. They are doubtlessly our friends.”
Dagestani Deputy Minister for Education and Science Hajimurad Aliyev said that “the government of Dagestan was systematically monitoring the level of teaching of the Russian language in general education centers of the republic. The USE held this year shows that the level of teaching needs to be improved. In this regard, we hold distance courses for teachers of the Russian language, philologists of Dagestan based at the Dagestan Institute of Advanced Training of Pedagogical Staff.
