This year Russia and the world celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The importance of this historical event is increasing every year. Sergey Karpov, Russian historian, Dean of the History Department of the Moscow State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Vestnik Kavkaza about necessary steps in the struggle against falsification of history and nationalism.
“Above all we must verify our knowledge. When we use authentic documents, we find out the reasons for the problems, explain why it is happening, and how to avoid this. It is possible to overcome this by telling the truth,” Karpov thinks.
According to him, “each nation made a great contribution to our mutual victory. Because the victory was procured by millions of people of different nationalities, and we should treat with respect each nation, each nationality. It runs in our blood. Especially for our students, because it is not allowed to offend people on any grounds as all nations are really worthy, they show their dignity. It must be remembered, respected, and always supported.”
Ahat Muhamedov, a veteran of the Northern Fleet, Captain of 1st Rank, told Vestnik Kavkaza that “the collapse of the Soviet Union gave some confidence to nationalists, who began to raise their heads. And all these things raised the ignorant part of the population, who thought that their nation is better than other nations. We all are nations of our great country. We have more than 150 nationalities and they all gave their contributions to the victory in the Great Patriotic War.”
Ahat Muhamedov thinks that “nationalism, Nazism, fascism have no place on Earth at all. What happened in Ukraine is such a disaster, when the Right Sector of western Ukraine raised its head. What they commit now is beyond my comprehension. They are real Nazis. Nazism has no right to exist. And I'm sure that the situation will be changed in our lifetime. We just need some time. And we will support internationalism.”
