Rossotrudnichestvo extends its geography

A month ago Lubov Glebova became the head of Rossotrudnichestvo, which implements projects on improvement of international contacts, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, and formation of a positive image of Russia abroad. She admitted: “The fact that we worked insufficiently in the humanitarian sphere on the background of broad economic integration with Ukraine would be a good lesson for us. I hope we will develop cultural, educational, and any other kinds of humanitarian ties everywhere where our economic interests exist. Ukraine’s lesson is a lesson for relations with all other countries where we have plans for broad economic integration.”

According to Alexander Radkov, Russian statesman, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, the agency worked in 81 countries in 2014, including 17 countries where no foreign service mission of Rossotrudnichestvo existed.

For the first time in its existence Rossotrudnichestvo has begun receiving government funding in order to support compatriots - 23 million rubles. Including the events in Russia – 67 million rubles, and abroad – about 56 million rubles. It has supported more than 80 events dedicated to the Day of National Unity and the Day of Russian Language in order to consolidate public associations of compatriots. From 11th to 17th of April in Sochi the first World Games of young compatriots was held, international sports competitions for children of compatriots, devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The management of the organization of the competition was carried out with the help of Rossotrudnichestvo in organizing and forming teams, visa support of participants, organization of transport for the participants to the venue of the games and back.

Radkov notes that “in accordance with the RF Government Decree of the 8th of October in 2013, it was allocated a quota for 175 countries in 2014 that allows it to receive 12,215 foreign citizens and compatriots. Russian foreign institutions together with the government, management education associations of compatriots abroad and partner non-governmental organizations, carried out a large amount of work. According to the results of the test qualifying events, 10,657 people from 155 countries were accepted to study in Russian educational organizations. Rossotrudnichestvo is informing the general public about the possibilities of receiving a higher education in Russia in order to attract foreigners and compatriots who live abroad to study in Russia. The agency assists Russian educational institutions in making presentations of their educational services, including in the context of international advertising and exhibition events. At the present time the agency has agreements with 79 educational institutions, on the basis of which the partners are provided RCSC places for events aimed at promoting Russian education, science and the Russian language in the country of residence.”

In 2014 a comprehensive action was successfully started – the Common Day of Graduates of Russian Universities on the basis of Russian diplomatic missions in order to strengthen international cooperation, improve the efficiency of scientific, technical, economic and commercial ties, cultural exchanges and education. The main audience of this festival were foreign citizens who have graduated from Russian or Soviet universities and worked at home according to their specialty; foreign citizens who were interested in learning and who are willing to get more useful information about possible admission to Russian universities; countrymen and people from the post-Soviet countries who graduated from Russian universities. The Common Day Events were held in 50 countries in 2014. It is planned to hold it in 72 countries this year.

Rossotrudnichestvo, as a client of the federal special-purpose program "Russian Language" in 2011-2015, annually organizes and holds a number of scientific-methodical and educational, cultural and educational activities, directed towards maintaining the Russian language among compatriots who live abroad. In 2014 the Agency held a series of 11 events in 60 countries. The most significant of them are a Russian language competition in schools where students are taught in Russian: the CIS countries, the Baltic States, Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The international competition: "The best teacher of Russian literature abroad," Days of Russian Speech in Armenia for Russian compatriots and foreign citizens. A Week of the Russian Language, Education and Culture for Russian compatriots and foreigners in Finland, as well as a series of events dedicated to the celebration of the Russian language.

Rossotrudnichestvo is planning to hold these series of events and attract participants from 70 countries in 2015.
