Ombudsmen in schools The elections of the first commissioners for the rights of the child have ended in the schools of the Stavropol region. The author of the initiative to create this new legal institution in education is the Children's Ombudsman of the region, Svetlana Adamenko. The main task of the school commissioner is to advise young people on legal issues and help them to defend their legitimate interests.
The city of Georgievsk and the Shpakovsky region have been chosen as the pilot areas for the project. The election campaign started here in September. According to the regional education ministry, a total of more than 150 people have been nominated for the post of school commissioners for the rights of the child in the chosen areas. The candidates were nominated by schoolchildren from local schools and orphanages.
Following the elections in Georgievsk in ten secondary schools, an orphanage and a boarding school for deaf children, 12 school ombudsmen have been elected. Among them are five teachers, four school psychologists and three social workers. In the Shpakovsky region 21 people have been elected, including 17 representatives of teaching staff and two representatives of the parent community, as well as a university student and a businessman.
According to Svetlana Adamenko, at present all the commissioners are participating in special training in order to learn their new profession and the final preparations are being completed. The ombudsmens' brief to protect the rights of schoolchildren began on the 1st of November.
