Olympic semiotics
For the first time in the history of the Olympic movement, the mascot of the games will be chosen by public vote. It will be presented exactly three years before the Games in Sochi – on the 7th of February 2011. The information on the contest is available at the
talisman.sochi2014.ru site.

The contest is held in two categories: “Olympic mascot” - a symbol of
the XXII Olympic Winter Games, and “Paralympic mascot” - a symbol of
the XI Paralympic Winter Games. Any citizen of Russia, as well as any foreign citizen, can take part in the competition. To take part in the competition, it is necessary to send to the Organizing Committee of
the Olympic Games a completed questionnaire and a creative work with the mascot by the 5th of December of this year.

The partners of the Olympics are trying to promote the idea of themascot among the public. The Russian Railways company is offeringpassengers of the Sapsan trains, operating between Moscow and St. Petersburg and Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, to portray their ideas on  what the Olympic Games’ mascot should look like during their trips.

Passengers on the Moscow-Sochi-Moscow flight were offered the chance to fill out an application for participation in the competition duringthe International Investment Forum "Sochi-2010". The BOSCO Sport stores, as well as the dealerships of the companies included in the Volkswagen Group Rus, and the sales offices of MegaFon are distributing forms for participation.


The winners of the competition will receive two tickets to the opening of the Games. The organizers have stressed that by sending work to the contest, the participant automatically entitles the organizing committee to all exclusive rights to the mascot without no exceptions or limitations. BOSCO Sport will give the winner a jacket, a hoodie, a hat, a scarf, gloves and a bag, while Megafon will award a netbook.
