Development of multi-party system in South Ossetia discussed in Tskhinvali

Issues of developing a stable multi-party system in South Ossetia were discussed during a meeting in Tskhinvali. The meeting was attended by prominent politicians, representatives of various political parties, experts and public figures. A prominent Russian scholar, the Editor-in-Chief of the Vestnik Kavkaza news agency, Dr. Alexey Vlasov, was also present at the meeting.

Opening the meeting, the Director of the Moscow State University’ Center for Political Studies of the Post-Soviet Republics, Irina Gagloyeva, said that the process of forming a civil society and the attempt to establish a state ruled by law are interconnected.

“Today our society cannot be called civil, mostly politicians only claim to work for its establishment. However, the process has already begun,” said Gagloyeva.

Among other issues, participants at the meeting discussed the problem of information technology in South Ossetia and the problem that the information policy of the authorities is insufficient, as the country still is not well-known in the world.

The present-day electoral system was described as adequate and appropriate.
