The police in Chechnya

The draft police law introduced by the President is twice as long as the previous one The reason is that the current law was passed twenty years ago, and the situation in the country has changed fundamentally.

The new law is being widely discussed in the North Caucasus, where the police are believed to be corrupt and harmful to the local population. In fact, the police are what supports the present-day stability in the republic.

This year 3 Chechen policemen were decorated with the order of Hero, 2 of them posthumously. 25 policemen were decorated by President Medvedev with the order of Courage, 24 of them posthumously. These people contributed much to the struggle against crime in the republic. Most of them died heroically.

The police in Chechnya are the main force in combatting illegal armed gangs. This year 75 militants have been killed in Chechnya, including 3 leaders of local bands and 1 militant from abroad, who was training young terrorists. Without the police, these special operations would be impossible.
