Grozny memorializes its patriots

After reconstruction, the capital of Chechnya has renamed the former Pervomaiskaya Street to Sheik Ali Mitayev Street. It is one of the oldest streets in Chechnya. Sheik Ali Mitayev was a son of the founder of one of the most popular religious movements in Chechnya.

In the course of two military campaigns the street was almost destroyed. Some years ago it became a part of the reconstruction program "Grozny without traces of war". This year residential buildings were restored.

Chechnya has renamed dozens of streets. Recently, one of reconstructed districts in Grozny was named after a major religious activist of the Caucasus, Kunt-Hadzhi Kishiyev.

The local authorities memorialize not only religious leaders, but also the country's heroes. Thus, today in Grozny you can walk down Gennady Troshev Street and Saipudi Lorsanov Street.
