The meeting proceeded in a business-like atmosphere. Journalists and the Presidential Envoy shared their opinions on the development of the regional media.
Alexander Khloponin stressed the point that the media should pay attention to popularizing the culture, history, and traditions of the Caucasian people rather than politics. One of the most acute problems is the one of youth. Young people in the 90s experienced a lack of state support and care, believes Kholoponin, and this led to the expansion of extremism.
Those assembled also discussed the issues of corruption, theefficiency of local officials' work and the vestiges of the clansystem in the Caucasus. Another issue discussed at the meeting was ofthe multi-ethnic structure of the region and inter-ethnic relationsю
