Yuzhni is a village in the Malgobek region of the republic. At first sight it looks rather sad. In Yuzhni there are no kindergartens or sports centers. Water and energy are often cut off, as the infrastructure was built in 1960s. However, the main problem of the village is unemployment.
The International Committee of the Red Cross recently began to fulfill microeconomic projects in Yuzhni. It provides low-income residents with the necessary materials for running small businesses, such as beekeeping.
Unemployment pushes young people into unsocial lives. Most of cases of drug addiction in the republic are young people aged 21-39-years (85%), mostly men without a job. There are no juveniles registered in addiction health centers. The average level of drug dependency in the republic is 73 cases per 100,000 people. It is one of the lowest rates in Russia.
In the period since January to October 2010 in addiction health centers of the republic 113 people who take drugs episodically were registered and 3 drug addicts. The most popular drug imported into the republic is expensive heroine. However, young people use light drugs these days.
