By Gia Saralidze, exclusively to VKThe President of Kazan FC Rubin, Dmitry Samarenkin, and the head coach of the team, Kurban Berdyev, declared that there is no conflict between them. Of course, a conflict did in fact exist, but the board of guardians was put in a difficult position by Berdyev’s resignation request. The board chose the only possible course of action and asked the conflicting parties to pretend nothing had happened. Berdyev even said that he never submitted the resignation request. Samarenkin and Berdyev even held a joint press conference today, probably trying to show that they’ve worked out all their differences and that they are ready to work together for the greater good of the club. It is possible that the parties were reconciled on January 29, when the president of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, met the president and the head coach of Rubin and asked them to restrain their ambitions and take up their actual jobs. Apparently, both parties decided to follow this advice.
Extracts from the joint press-conference of Kurban Berdyev and Dmitry Samarennikov
On Berdyev’s resignation
Berdyev:
It’s nothing but a rumour; I’m tired of denying it. I don’t know who wrote it first, but now I have to constantly justify myself. Someone is fanning it for their own interests. Yes, we had certain disagreements, but that is quite normal when a team works out a new strategy. But now we’ve worked out a common strategy and we are ready to move on.
Samarenkin:
You know, it’s like when a husband has a fight with his wife – it doesn’t mean they’re getting a divorce. But there’s a positive side to this situation: for two days the media spoke of nothing else but Rubin. What publicity! We sure got some new fans.
On the Naboa transfer
Samarenkin:
We had some disagreements with Kurban Berdyev on the club’s transfer policy, but we found a compromise. Yes, there was a heated discussion about Naboa’s transfer in the media, but Berdyev and I had a common opinion on this matter.
Berdyev:
We will carry on our work as we did before. We chose new players for the Europa League tournament together. Unfortunately, we failed to acquire the players we wanted. So we let the question hang till summer. We won’t give you any names for obvious reasons. As for our sponsors, we tell them the name of the player and the sum of the transfer, and they give the go-ahead or not. The budget remains the same. If we give a player away, the money goes on new transfers, as will be the case with Noboa, we just don’t want to spend it right away.
