The result of the recent visit by the prime minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Moscow is an exchange of notes on ratification of the intergovernmental agreement on reciprocal travel of citizens.
The agreement was signed on May 12, 2010. Previously, a Turkish visa was given to a Russian citizen at an airport for $20. From this summer, the visa regime is abolished.
According to the Turkish prime minister, 3 million Russian tourists visited Turkey last year. Erdogan expects this number will grow year by year. The number of Russian tourists is going to surpass the number of German tourists.
Even though $20 is not expensive for a visa, the abolition of the visa regime is a good marketing ploy. Tourist flow from Russia will grow by 10-15%.
