Crafts of the Caucasus: Kislovodsk Porcelain

The craftsmen of Kavminvody have long produced porcelain, leather items, glass, and ceramics. The Stavropol Territory is always represented by wood-carving, forging, embroidery, patchwork and beadwork at exhibitions of national crafts. However, Kislovodsk porcelain is considered the most popular local craft in Kavminvody and the Stavropol Territory.

In 1930s craftsmen united in Artel, and in 1937 their bone-carving works were already being exhibited at the international exhibition in Paris. Since the 1980s, the formation of the Kislovodsk school has been talked about as an independent school of Russian porcelain-making and the workshops producing the porcelain have acquired the status of a traditional crafts enterprise.

Kislovodsk porcelain is characterized by floral motifs and ornaments. Each painting is unique.
