Dagestan's nature will help tourism sector development

The Dagestani authorities managed to include the sea-cost part of the Republic into the program of tourism development. The realization of this project and construction of ski resort "Matlas" will allow Dagestan to compete with Krasnodar Region for tourists. According to the head of Dagestani Republic, Magomedsalam Magomedov, tourism is a propriety branch of Dagestan's development under the North Caucasus Federal District Development till 2025 Strategy. He also expressed his hope that Dagestan will become the focal point of the region's tourism. The sea-cost sector with ski resort would look extremely appealing among the Republic's offers for tourists as it can equally provide recreation is summer and in winter.

Mr Magomedov assured that international experience will be used to grant the tourists' the safety. He also said that be the time the "Matlas" resort will be constructed, the political and social situation in the region will be stabilized.

The project was initialized last year by Dmitry Medvedev. Elvira Nbiulina, Russia's Economic Development minister, visited the "Matlas" construction site in mid-July to check on the progress. During her visit, she stressed that the project will allow to create additional jobsites and will also boost private investments in the recreation sector. Resorts on the North Caucasus are being constructed in cooperation with French partners.

Total area of the "Matlas" resort will constitute 150 square kilometers, the length of skiing tracks - 147 km. Total sum of investments needed for the realization of the project is 38 billion rubles. The constructors expect the resort to host 900,000 tourists a year and to create some 30 new jobsites.
