The Israeli structure for combating terrorism of the prime minister’s office has reduced the danger level for visiting Turkey from the maximum to the minimum. This means that Israeli tourists will only be warned to be extra cautious in Turkey.
“The decision of the structure doesn’t mean that the danger threatening Israeli in Turkey is eliminated,”Alex Selsky, an advisor to the Israeli prime minister, told Vestnik Kavkaza. “But today is much less than it was several months ago, and there are reasons for it. Danger was not coming from the Turkish people who are free from anti-Semitism and treat Israel, as well as its residents positively. The problem was Islamic fundamentalists and radical Islamists who have settled in the country in recent times. The Turkish special services proved their ability to fight with these elements. But I repeat the threat still exists, and Israeli tourists visiting Turkey were recommended to behave like ordinary Europeans, not to talk in Hebrew, not to speak about their Jewish identity and to dress the way Europeans do.”
Another top official from the administration of the Israeli prime minister said that the decision on reduction of the danger level is connected with the fact that Istanbul is still a place for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, so fundamentalists are not likely to organize terrorist attacks. Answering the question on progress in improvement of Israeli-Turkish relations, the source said that there is no progress in Turkish-Israeli relations at the official level: “But the latest initiative with the danger level is a positive step.”
