The Caucasian Mineral Waters region to be core of a new tourist cluster

Stavropol Krai joins the program to establish a new tourist cluster in the North Caucasus Federal District
Stavropol Krai has joined the program to establish a new tourist cluster, formed by the ski resorts of the New Caucasus and the Mineral Waters region. According to vice-president of the Government of the Krai, Georgy Efremov, the operating company, formed by the local authorities, will be vested with the power to implement the project.

Mr. Efremov stressed that the priority issue is to connect the ski resorts of the North Caucasus and the resorts of the Mineral Waters region with convenient transport routes. In this way a short route will connect Kislovodsk with the north slope of Mount Elbrus in three years. The building of the 74 km highway will be finished in 2013.

The Government of Stavropol Krai made several proposals while the project was being discussed. It was the Government of the Krai that offered to make the Caucasian Mineral Waters region the center of the new tourist cluster, despite being primarily a health resort and not a skiing destination.
