Dmitry Fedorovsky: "Azerbaijan has created excellent conditions for the development of sport"

The first World Cup of the International Federation of Gymnastics in Trampoline started today in Baku for the first time at the National Gymnastics Arena. The tournament will last two days. Qualifying performances in individual and synchronized programs for men and women are taking place today. Vestnik Kavkaza managed to interview one of the leading sportsmen of the Azerbaijani national team on trampoline Dmitry Fedorovsky.

- How have you performed? How is your mood?

- I have an excellent mood, as usual. I am satisfied, but not as I would like it to be. The first combination was done well. I liked it. I made a little mistake in the second. But I competed up to an end. I am satisfied.

- Has your home town helped you?

- Certainly, there are a lot of fans, and I feel such strong support. The leadership is looking at us.

- Do you feel responsibility?

- Certainly. But you feel pride in yourself and the country when you realize that your job is already done and people look at you.

- How did you start performing for the national team of Azerbaijan?

- I joined the national team of Azerbaijan a year and half ago from the Russian team. It's such a long, sorry story. I couldn’t perform for the national team in Russia, not only due to competition, but because of such family and friendly relations among coaches and management. After failing to get into the national team and then I was seriously injured in 2013. Then I realized that I had no prospects in Russia. I was written off. But I recovered and was about to participate in the election session for the World Cup in the Russian national team. At that time I received an invitation from Azerbaijan. And I thought: сome as it may.

- How do you like living in Azerbaijan?

- Very much. All the conditions are created here, all kinds of support are provided. The Federation has very large financial opportunities. There are good conditions. I would compare this complex with the Russian one in Novogorsk. It isn’t inferior to that one.

- How often do you have injuries?

- No, it's okay. I have recovered after that injury, and it doesn’t bother me at all.

- What led you to perform on trampoline?

- My mother engaged me in the trampoline kind of sport. Firstly, she made me go for gymnastics, acrobatics then on, but didn’t succeed in it. At the age of 13, my mother brought me to the trampoline. There was no such separation in my city. An acrobatics coach told me when something went wrong in work: ‘‘Jump on the trampoline." And then I suddenly started to succeed in it. The trampoline that began to be developed in Rostov-on-Don began together with me. I was the first ‘experimental’ athlete.

 - Who supports you now?

 - A lot of people. Certainly, my parents, relatives, friends. Some of them are watching the live broadcast, even the Russian national team. Those athletes who didn’t come also support me. We are very good friends and we keep in touch. Of course, the leadership also supports me.

 - Does the Azerbaijani trampoline school differ from the Russian one? Are there any specifics?

- The second part of the Russian national team trains here, which is why the school and the technique are the same in Russia at the international level.

- How do you assess the cooperation of Russia and Azerbaijan in the field of sport?

- I am watching a lot of mercenaries of Slavic appearance, not only in gymnastics, but in many kinds of sport. So cooperation is very close.
