Dmitry Rogozin, RF vice-premier, has visited a presentation of the Baku 2015 European Games in Moscow. Before the beginning of the event, the politician and public figure gave Vestnik Kavkaza an interview about the current condition of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.
- Are you going to visit the European Games? What kind of sport is most interesting for you?
- I am the head of the councils of several sporting federations: the Handball Federation of Russia. It’s my favorite kind of sport. I grew up with it. And also practical shooting and sambo. These kinds of sport will be interesting for me.
- How do you evaluate the current relations between Russia and Azerbaijan?
- Relations are on the rise. We have a very good agreement with the governing body of the Azerbaijan Republic. Nowadays Azerbaijani manufacturers are helping Russia to solve some problems with the supply of horticultural production at a time of sanctions in regard to Russia. I can say that we also work very well in the field of industry. The possibility is being considered of forming a service centre in Azerbaijan for Russian-manufactured helicopters. A lot of work is being done on shelf area, we also have ideas of cooperation in the field of shipbuilding and developing the Caspian region. In addition, I can say that our countries have trust, mutual understanding, common opinions on international policy, cooperation in the sphere of industry, which is developing. It’s too important, especially when the West is trying to take the opportunity to influence Russia in the matter of our choice according to our sovereign position and other important and principal matters for us. In this situation, Azerbaijan has proved itself to be a reliable ally. That’s why I have contact with pleasure and stay at the head as a co-chairperson of the Russian part of the commission between Russian and Azerbaijan on socio-economic and scientific-technical collaboration.
We have been friends with the Aliyevs for a long time. They are a wonderful and outstanding family. That’s why I cannot help coming here today.
