The terrorist attack at Moscow's Domodedovo airport has caused a strong global reaction. A vice-head of the Committee on Security and Defense of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, a member of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, Aydin Mirzezade, has expressed his attitude towards terrorism and its consequences in an interview with VK:
- Unfortunately, terrorist attacks in Russia occur almost at regular intervals and with great losses, they are brutal and inhumane. Apparently, some forces are not interested in stability in Russian society. They aim at creating tension, nervousness in the community. And this is a big threat to the security of Russian citizens. I express my deepest condolences those who lost their family members and I think that terrorism must be eradicated from life not only in Russia but worldwide. People should have a right and guarantee for a secure life. In this respect, Russia is doing a lot, but apparently, conditions for the formation of terrorist activities are still being created somewhere. Hopefully in the near future, the organizers and perpetrators of terrorist acts will be found and punished according to the laws.
- Why do you think the number of terrorist attacks has increased in the world recently?
- Yes, this is a problem of the world in the late XX - early XXI century. Terrorists have no nationality, no citizenship. The largest attack occurred on the 11th of September, 2001 in the US, but even a single death as a result of a suicide attack, makes everyone wonder about the price of its own security. Azerbaijan has repeatedly been the target of terrorist attacks in 1990. By bombing buses and subways, terrorist organizations wanted to sow fear, tension and distrust of Azerbaijanis to their state. These acts were put to an end, and today Azerbaijan is cooperating with the whole world at preventing terrorist activities. The horror and devastating attacks cannot be justified by any goals. We must fight together against these negative phenomena, to study and find sources that fuel it. In this regard, Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with all the nations.
- Can terrorist attacks solve any problem?
- Experience has shown that no problems can be solved that way. On the other hand, even if such actions are carried out for ideological reasons, it alienates the people from this ideology. The highest value is man and his life. There is no ideological purposes that can justify a murder. I think that the taken measures will lead to a final curbing of this serious social phenomenon.
- What measures, in your opinion, are needed?
- First of all, serious cooperation on a global scale - information sharing, quick response to threats of terror. Recently, the Armenian nationalist and terrorist organization, ASALA has declared that it will resume attacks against the Turkish diplomats around the world. Unfortunately, the world did not react in any way to it. Terrorism cannot be beaten with existing double standards. But all the terrorists are using the same methods: people are dying, the public peace is being disturbed, and fear appears. Everyone need to respect international legal norms to prevent changes in the borders without the consent of the states themselves, not to encourage separatist sentiment, not to support the bellicose statements of individual leaders. In this regard, there is a will to cooperate. At all times the healthy forces were guided by one desire - to respect and protect the people. The fight against terrorism must not occur within one state, or one contingent. This should be cooperation on a global scale. We must educate, advocate for people to understand that the most valuable is the human life. We must build confidence of
peoples to each other. Nowadays, there are such states, such societies which do not want to live under the laws of the XXI century and still think in terms of the Middle Ages. This is the root of evil; these factors create conditions for terrorist sentiments.Interview by Ramin Naziyev, Baku. Exclusively for VK
