Fan Galina Orlova: “It was an amazing festival”Interview by Vestnik KavkazaVestnik Kavkaza talked to a fan, Galina Orlova, who visited the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku, about the organization and atmosphere of the event.-          We know that you supported the Russian national team actively during the whole championships. Please tell us about your impressions.-          It is true. It was very interesting to follow the competitions. The Russian national team turned out to be the best as usual. We took 8 out of 9 gold medals. Our girls did a good job. But teams of other countries were decent rivals. It was interesting to watch Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, Bulgaria. It was obvious that Azerbaijan was thoroughly preparing for the championships. Their gymnasts performed well and managed to cope with the pressure put on them. The audience supported them very actively. The hall burst into applause when the girls performed. It is nice that the Azerbaijani fans supported not only their team, but also other gymnasts, including Russians.-          Have you been at such championships before?-          Yes, I have. I like rhythmic gymnastics. It is a beautiful kind of sport. I was at the World Championships in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, I saw the Alina Kabayeva Champions Cup.-          So it is difficult to impress you. Would you call the Baku tournament unforgettable?-          Of course. First of all, I am impressed by Baku itself. It is a very beautiful city. It is obvious that the authorities take care of their country and the capital. Secondly, the opening ceremony of the tournament was amazing. It was a real festival. As the championships weren't taking place in Russia I was worried that it would be difficult to communicate. But almost all the people speak Russian in Azerbaijan. At least they understand it. The nation is very hospitable and warm. I would like to stress the high level of organization of the championships. A lot of efforts were made to hold it. Volunteers were everywhere and were ready to help. I enjoyed it very much. I know that next year Baku will host the first European Olympic Games, and I hope I will come to watch them. I can’t imagine what a festival of sport and beauty we will see in 2015, if Baku paid so much attention to the European Championships.
