The final competitions of the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
took place today in the Olympiysky Stadium of Moscow. Russian
sportswomen Evgeniya Kanayeva and Darya Kondakova have won gold and
silver medals. The bronze medal was won by the Azerbaijani gymnast
Aliya Garayeva. We have discussed the future of the Azerbaijani
champion with Irina Viner, the President of the Russian Federation of
Gymnastics.
- What do you think about the success of Aliya Garayeva?
- She is an experienced gymnast. Her success is quite logical. Before
taking part in the World Championship she was already a Champion of
Europe. It's very good she is not going to finish her career, she is
always training, she doesn't take a break. Each year she is becoming
more and more skilful. Today we saw a performance by Nataliya Godunko,
a Ukrainian sportswoman. She has returned into sports after a break
and now she is not is such a good shape as she was before. On the
contrary Aliya is always in a good shape.
- What, according to your opinion, determined the success of the
Azerbaijani gymnasts?
- I'm very happy that Azerbaijan is successful in such a kind of
sport as rhythmic gymnastics. I believe that this success is
determined by the efforts of the Azerbaijani Federation of Rhythmic
Gymnastics and its President, Mrs. Mekhriban Aliyeva. They do their
best in order to create all necessary conditions for the gymnasts so
that they can win.
