Türkiye, Egypt agree to fully normalize relations

Türkiye and Egypt intend to fully normalize relations. Their plans were confirmed following talks by Foreign Ministers Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Sameh Shoukry. According to media reports, the ministers also agreed to hold a meeting of the presidents later this year.

Türkiye and Egypt finally agreed to fully restore relations, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said at a press conference following a meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Cairo.

Sameh Shoukry stressed that the leadership of both countries has the political will to launch the process of complete normalization.

According to him, the talks focused on the creation of bilateral communication channels between government agencies, as well as the prospects for the exchange of ambassadors.

The diplomat added that Ankara and Cairo have similar views on the restoration of economic ties, as well as on certain regional issues.

What did Cavusoglu say

The Turkish Foreign Minister confirmed that the parties plan to bring diplomatic relations to the highest level in the near future.

The diplomat said that the parties held a sincere meeting, as a result of which it turned out that the number of differences between Ankara and Cairo is not so great.

The minister specified that in the future, bilateral relations will develop in a number of areas: trade, economic, investment, humanitarian, tourism – the potential for this is great, and it must be used to the maximum.

According to media reports, the ministers also discussed the possibility of a meeting between the presidents. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for the second half of this year, Al Arabiya reports.
