Baku hosting international chess festival

The capital of Azerbaijan is hosting the opening ceremony of the international chess festival "Baku Open 2024".

The opening ceremony of the international chess tournament, where 328 chess players from 12 countries will take part, kicked off at 14:30.

The tournament to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) will feature an expanded field of top-seeded chess players from Bulgaria, Georgia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States, Uzbekistan and two FIDE flag players.

The 9-round Swiss system competition which will consist of 2 tournaments , offers a total prize fund of $50,000.

The International Chess Festival "Baku Open - 2024" will be held at the Baku Sport Hall, from June 29 to July 7.

Azerbaijan`s hopes will be pinned on Rauf Mammadov, Mahammad Muradli, Gadir Huseynov, Aydin Suleymanli and others.
