Iranian border guards seized an oil tanker carrying 6 mln liters of oil. Iranian authorities suspect the crew of oil smuggling.

The Iranian authorities arrested the crew of an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, the Fars news agency reports.

The vessel is reportedly carrying approximately 6 mln liters of oil (37,000 barrels). Iranian authorities suspect the vessel was smuggling oil. The 18-member crew was arrested.

A similar incident occurred in November, when Iranian border guards intercepted the Talar tanker as it entered the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was eventually released.
