The U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran have undermined the nuclear non-proliferation regime, according to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.
He said the attacks dealt a blow to the non-proliferation framework, adding that the weakening had been exacerbated by the lack of a response from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"Unfortunately, the IAEA did not directly condemn this incident. We, along with the international community, are concerned about the erosion of the international non-proliferation regime," Jalali said.
The diplomat noted that the U.S. and Israel had struck facilities that were protected under the obligations incumbent upon a non-nuclear-weapon state.
Notably, Iranian nuclear programme sites were among the targets of U.S. and Israeli strikes in 2025 and 2026. Concerns over Tehran's potential pursuit of nuclear weapons remain a key motive for Israel's involvement in the military action.
