The 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia has raised the bar for Qatar, which is set to hold the next global football event in 2022, Qatar’s Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali stated during the press conference "Qatar - Guest Country" within the framework of the seventh St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, TASS reported.
"Russian World Cup was an amazing event. <…> In Qatar, we have promised the world that we will deliver an amazing World Cup. The Russians made it much difficult for us now - they have raised the bar," the minister said, adding that the Qatari delegation present at the 2018 FIFA World Cup has learned a lot from their Russian colleagues and is using the acquired experience at home.
The minister also noted that one of Qatar’s promises concerning the future World Cup is that "some of the stadiums will be dismantled and will be given to countries that cannot afford <…> venues like this." He also stated that young people from all countries, especially the Middle East, would participate in the organization of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. "The youth in the Middle East really needs an event like this. It gives them hope, it empowers them," the Qatari official stated.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.
