22,000 foreigners were detained in Iran while attempting to illegally cross the border since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (on March 21), the commander of Iranian West Azerbaijan province border guards, Shahram Abbasi, said.
He said that 150-200 citizens of foreign countries were being detained daily for attempts to cross the border illegally, Trend reports.
Iranian province of West Azerbaijan shares a border with Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan with a length of 965 kilometers.
