9 sets of medals to be played for on twelfth day of First European Games


Today in Baku the twelfth day of the European Games has started, during which competitions will be held in badminton, basketball, fencing, boxing, swimming and volleyball.


Today the athletes will contend for 9 medal sets: two sets in fencing (women’s individual epee and men's individual sabre) and 7 sets in swimming (400m individual medley, 50m breaststroke, 800m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay among women and 50m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle relay among men).


The quarterfinal competitions in boxing and volleyball will be held today. The Russian women's volleyball team will meet with the Turkish team and the Azerbaijanis with the Dutch. Also Germany will play with Poland and Belgium with Serbia.


Russian boxers Alexander Besputin (up to 69 kg), Sadam Magomedov (up to 91 kg), Elena Savaleva (up to 54 kg) and Anastasia Belyakova (up to 64 kg) will fight in the quarterfinals. Azerbaijan will be represented by Albert Salimov (up to 60 kg), Collazo Sotomayor (up to 64 kg), Parviz Bagirov (up to 69 kg), Abdulkadir Abdullayev (up to 91 kg), Anna Alimardanova (up to 54 kg) and Elena Vystropova (up to 64 kg). Narek Abgaryan will represent Armenia (up to 52 kg) and Georgia will be represented by Gela Abashidze (up to 69 kg).


Azerbaijanis Azar Tagiyev, Abdullah Hasanov, Javanshir Safarov and Javanshir Agakishiev will fight in men's individual sabre competitions and Elmira Hudaverdyeva, Samira Huseynova, Maryam Malikova and Nubar Malikova will fight in women’s individual epee events. Russia in men's individual sabre competitions will be represented by Boris Savich, Ilya Motorin, Alexander Trushakov and Nikita Proskura and in women’s individual epee events by Olga Kochneva, Tatiana Andryushina, Anna Sivkova and Yana Zvereva.
